Apple announced the iPhone today, and I want one. Why?
- It’s a widescreen iPod
- It’s a cellular phone
- It runs Mac OS X
- I suspect we’ll start seeing third-party software for it almost immediately
- If other people can write software for it, I can write software for it
- It syncs everything from the Mac
- Contacts
- Calendar
- Notes
- iTunes video and music
- It’ll surf the Internet
- It does e-mail
- It has a 2MP camera
- Just one button—the rest of the face is all touchscreen
- It has widgets—check movie listings, the weather, Google Maps…all without interrupting a call or stopping music playback
- MSRP of $499, undoubtedly less with a commitment to Cingular
- 5 hours of talk time or video playback time
- 16 hours of audio playback
- Sensors to detect rotation of the unit, and automatically rotate whatever’s onscreen into landscape or portrait mode
- Speakerphone
- Ambient light sensor to automatically adjust display brightness
I’m just about speechless. It’s everything I wanted in an Apple cellphone, except about five months later than I’d hoped.
