Experimenting

I’m considering working with a new blog package called Typo. I have a rudimentary setup in place that I’d like all of you to take a look at and make comments.

Let me know what you think of the interface—not necessarily the theme, as that’s entirely subject to change (although I like the simplicity of the styling), but rather the commenting mechanism and searching and so on.

I value your input!

Edit: I’ve ruled out Typo, as I’m just not convinced of its stability or appropriateness to my way of working. It’s cool, and based on excellent technology (Ruby on Rails), but I’m just not excited about it. Trying out WordPress now…

On Kicking…

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

Friday at Tae Kwon Do is usually the ‘fun’ day. Today, things started well and quickly went downhill…

We started the session off with light sparring, followed by self-defense techniques, then some simple upright bag kicking, and then more fancy bag kicking. It was all cool until my jumping roundhouse. I got great air, delivered a sound kick, and came down on the hard plastic base with my left foot, abrading a goodly bit of my heel. Oh, well. I’ve been scraped up before, right?

I followed that with a running, jumping back kick. My foot landed at roughly head-level on the bag, which was awesome. Then, my left heel hit the base again, taking off even more skin. Then, my right shin hit the base. Dammit!

I have a quarter-sized chunk of skin missing from my left foot and a five-inch-long knot running along the inside side of my left shin. It hurts to walk, and it hurts to sit. I’m about to try my luck at laying down.

My only regret is that nobody had a camera. Those were some cool kicks…

A busy week…

So, I’m working on a PHP application for a co-worker of mine. Specifically, it’s for his daughter, who runs a 16-vehicle trucking company with two offices and needs a way to coordinate the booking of jobs for the trucks without having to pick up the phone every time.

I’m hoping to have it ready to go by Monday but it occurs to me that, following our discussion on Thursday, I’m adding new features and the like that might not operate the way he wants them to. I don’t feel comfortable getting down and dirty with the styling until the operation of the app is squared away. I’ve put about six hours of work into it so far, so I ought to make a fair bit of money once it’s complete.

Hello, 2006!

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

The year’s starting off with a whimper, which is just fine with me.

I’ve set my sights somewhat lower that one might expect. ‘Tis the season for setting mostly-unattainable goals, but I’m not going to do it. Not this year. Instead, here’s my list of resolutions for 2006:

  • Blog weekly (I just came in under the wire here!)
  • Spend less money (and therefore save more)
  • Go camping more
  • Spend more time with friends
  • Spend more time with family (sorry, Cherryl!)

Sound fair? What are your resolutions?
