4th Geup

Sunday, September 26th, 2004

An interesting day…

Donnell and I took our belt tests today (4th Geup for me, 5th Geup for Donnell) and we both passed. As has become usual, I managed to botch several portions of the test, but they were either remedied (in the case of my form) or ignored.

Today also saw a sparring first for me: my first knockout. Contrary to what many may think, I wasn’t the one knocked out. No, instead, I delivered a backswing kick to the head of a young man who was testing for his black belt today. He was unable to continue his test, although I understand that he won’t need to begin the test again from the beginning.

I’ll write more on this later. I still don’t feel very good about the whole thing.

Anonymous Visitors

Friday, September 17th, 2004

I suppose everybody faces this at some point (usually well before their web site/blog/whatever becomes popular enough that checking logs for fun becomes difficult), so I’m going to go ahead and address the issue now.

I’m receiving a handful of visitors (usually referred here by my posts at the Textdrive or Textpattern forums) who don’t leave any comments. I’ll try to make this very clear:

I want you to leave comments!

Even if it’s just to say that my content sucks, or that I’m too self-absorbed, or whatever. So…since there’s no other good place to leave comments like that, I’ve created this post. I’ll link to it from my front page.

If you’re just passing through, drop me a note. Say “hey” or “howdy” or “shut yer bleedin’ pie hole”...just stop being anonymous!

CSS Layout Trouble…

Tuesday, September 14th, 2004

I’m having some trouble with what should be a rather simple design tweak to my wife’s web site.

All I want to do is add a sidebar, beneath the flower-in-a-vase graphic on the left side of the site. I’ve tried a dozen different approaches (including floating a div to the left and positioning the div absolutely), and nothing works quite right with the existing HTML and CSS.

I’m about to just start from scratch, using a proven two-column layout as a template and rebuilding the visual design. Grr…

On Intermittence

Monday, September 13th, 2004

Mirriam-Webster defines intermittence as:

the quality or state of being intermittent

I very purposefully selected it as the name of my web site, because I wanted to make it clear that I would not be updating it regularly. I know now, though, that my reader isn’t satisfied with this arrangement.

So…

I’ve resolved to post more regularly. I’m not sure what, exactly, I’ll post more regularly, but I’ll find something. Don’t be surprised to find gibberish here from time to time.

That is all.
